Midnight Comes With
the Dawn:
The Vampyir Plague
by Darlene Burns
Genre: LGBTQ Paranormal Romance
Women. Infected blood. Rotting corpses.
Welcome to the world of Katrine Baten aka Midnight. She is
one of the oldest existing Vampyirs (pronounced Vampires) and only surrounds
herself with eye candy. There is a virus that's destroying not only the
Vampyirs, but it's killing Humans as well.
Together with her Coven by her side, Midnight tries to find
a cure. And what she discovers may change the course of how she lives as a
Vampyir forever!
Darlene Burns grew up in Los Angeles, California. She attended L.A.Valley
College to study Oceanography, but realized her true passion was creative
writing and telling a good story. "I come from a family of talented women.
So even though I put off my dreams of writing to raise my children, I
challenged myself to become one of those women that I so admire. So after my
children were old enough, I returned to writing. My true passion is reading and
researching all elements regarding the supernatural. I fell in love with the
old movies featuring Vincent Price and Bela Lugosi. I hope that you enjoy my
work as much as I enjoyed writing it."

Queen Katrine feared and revered by many African countries is turned into a Vampire in order to fulfill her destiny. Her Maker, Darius, comes to her to reveal that her deceased father was his best friend and knew what he was, which makes her acceptance of what she is to become no easier.
Fast forward Katrine is now known as Midnight and is the leader of a lesbian clan of Vampires. A plague is killing not just humans, but Vampire kind as well. How will the oldest living Vampire in her clan find a cure? Well, you will have to read the story and find out.
This was definitely a different spin on the Vampire tale that we normally read in paranormal fiction. Instead of the usual roguishly handsome brooding male Vamp protagonist, who wields his power with cold efficiency, aloofness and betrayal, the author treats us to a strong black female lead, well more than one. Alex is a force as well and so very...I'm getting off track. You can get more of her story in Book 2.
The author did such a good job of creating the world of Midnight and her coven as the story progressed. I was a bit leery about the plague and how the author would spin it, because well it's been done many times. But, Ms. Burns did a big one with this. There were quite a few surprises for me as I learned of how the plague came to be AND the very existence of humans and vampires in her world. The scenes with her coven were filled with laughter, love and a fair amount of lust. Alex and Midnight's "connection" for the win. But, I digress.
I did enjoy that the author kept a bit of realism to the story which aided in making it easy to connect with this new world
Now, I would not be me if I did mention the technical side of things. There were a few errors that could be addressed i.e. flashback transitions.
All in all the story was entertaining and was structured well enough to keep you engaged. Get your copy, please leave a review and don't forget to participate in the giveaway!
